Compensating Cable Type L Teflon at Competitive Prices from the Manufacturer
The compensating cable Type L Teflon transmits the thermoelectric voltage signal from Type L thermocouples (Fe-CuNi) to the display or controller. Type L is based on the older German standard and continues to be used in numerous existing installations, particularly in metalworking and mechanical engineering. The conductors of the compensating cable consist of substitute alloys that replicate the thermoelectric properties of the thermocouple within a range of 0 to 200 °C.
Therma manufactures each compensating cable Type L Teflon at its production site in Lindlar and sells directly to trade and industry without intermediaries. Standard variants are kept in stock and shipped via UPS. For orders of EUR 250 or more, shipping within Germany is free of charge.
The PTFE sheathing protects the conductors within a temperature range of -190 to +260 °C against moisture, oils and aggressive chemicals. This makes the compensating cable Type L Teflon suitable even for environments where PVC or silicone cables reach their limits. You can configure your desired specification directly in the Therma online shop, where all compensating cables are organised by type and insulation.
Standard Lengths and Custom Dimensions for Every Measurement Application
Therma offers the compensating cable Type L Teflon in common conductor cross-sections from 0.22 mm² to 1.5 mm². Smaller cross-sections provide high flexibility and can be routed through narrow cable ducts. Larger cross-sections are recommended for cable lengths exceeding 20 m, as they minimise the voltage drop on the path to the measuring instrument.
The following table shows the technical specifications of the compensating cable Type L Teflon
| Property | Specification |
|---|---|
| Thermocouple type | L (Fe-CuNi, older DIN standard) |
| Designation per DIN | LC |
| Tolerance class | 2 |
| Insulation | PTFE (Teflon) |
| Insulation temperature range | -190 to +260 °C |
| Thermoelectric conformity | 0 to +200 °C |
In addition to standard products, the in-house manufacturing department also produces custom lengths and project-specific terminations within 1 to 2 weeks. Connectors in miniature or standard versions can be mounted directly onto the cable, providing you with a ready-to-install product.
PTFE Insulation for Chemically Demanding Measurement Environments
Teflon (PTFE) is one of the most chemically resistant insulation materials in temperature measurement technology. The compensating cable Type L Teflon withstands concentrated acids, alkalis and a wide range of organic solvents without the insulation swelling or becoming brittle. In the chemical industry, electroplating and food production, this resistance is a decisive advantage over fibreglass or silicone insulations.
PTFE does not absorb moisture and retains its insulation properties even in the presence of condensation or spray water. Fibreglass can absorb moisture under the same conditions, which reduces the insulation resistance and impairs measurement accuracy over time. However, if the ambient temperature at the cable consistently exceeds 260 °C, fibreglass with its operating range up to 400 °C is the more suitable alternative.
For thermocouples of Type L in existing installations, furnaces or test benches, the PTFE insulation reliably covers the typical ambient temperatures. Therma also offers thermocouple extension wires of Type L with Teflon or fibreglass insulation. Thermocouple extension wires achieve the tighter tolerance class 1 and are suited for applications with higher accuracy requirements.
ISO 9001 and UKAS Certified Quality Control
Therma produces all compensating cables Type L Teflon 100% by hand at its Lindlar site. The manufacturing team has many years of experience in cable assembly and tests each batch for continuity, insulation resistance and polarity. The cable only leaves the facility after passing final inspection.
The quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 with UKAS-accredited certification forms the foundation of all manufacturing processes. The limit deviations of the compensating cable Type L Teflon comply with the specifications for tolerance class 2. As Therma manufactures without external suppliers, complete traceability of every material used is guaranteed.
For technical questions about the compensating cable Type L Teflon or the right configuration for your installation, you can reach the Therma team at +49 2266 487330-30 or by email at info@thermagmbh.de. The standard delivery time for stock items is just one week, and custom productions can be completed within 1 to 2 weeks.
