Compensating Cables Type J Teflon Directly from the Manufacturer
Compensating cables Type J Teflon transmit the thermoelectric voltage signal from Type J thermocouples (Fe-CuNi) to the display unit or controller. The conductors consist of substitute alloys that exhibit the same thermoelectric properties as the thermocouple within an operating range of 0 to 200 °C. According to DIN EN 60584-3, this compensating cable carries the designation "JC" and meets the requirements of tolerance class 2 with a limit deviation of ±2.5 °C.
Therma supplies compensating cables Type J Teflon as a manufacturer directly to industry and trade. Common variants are kept in stock and reach you via UPS shipping within a few days. For orders of EUR 250 or more, shipping within Germany is free of charge.
The PTFE insulation reliably protects the conductors within an ambient temperature range of -190 to +260 °C. Teflon is resistant to acids, alkalis and organic solvents, making it suitable for use in chemically demanding environments. In the Therma online shop, you can configure your compensating cables to your requirements and order them directly.
Various Lengths and Cross-Sections for Your Measurement Technology
Therma offers compensating cables Type J Teflon in several standard lengths and conductor cross-sections. Common cross-sections range from 0.22 mm² to 1.5 mm², depending on the cable length and desired signal quality. Thinner cross-sections provide greater flexibility during installation, while larger cross-sections reduce electrical resistance over long distances.
For cable lengths exceeding 20 m, a larger cross-section is recommended to minimise the voltage drop between the measuring point and the display unit. The following table provides an overview of the technical specifications
| Property | Specification |
|---|---|
| Thermocouple type | J (Fe-CuNi) |
| Designation per DIN EN 60584-3 | JC |
| Tolerance class | 2 (±2.5 °C) |
| Insulation | PTFE (Teflon) |
| Insulation temperature range | -190 to +260 °C |
| Thermoelectric conformity | 0 to +200 °C |
In addition to standard lengths, Therma also provides custom assemblies. Special cuts, project-specific connector combinations or particular cross-sections are produced by the in-house manufacturing department within 1 to 2 weeks. Matching connectors in miniature or standard versions can be ordered at the same time.
Compensating Cables Type J Teflon Compared to Fibreglass
Besides Teflon (PTFE), compensating cables Type J are also available with fibreglass insulation. Fibreglass withstands ambient temperatures up to approximately 400 °C and is therefore suited for hotter installation locations. Teflon is limited to 260 °C but offers significantly better protection against moisture and chemical media.
In environments with acid fumes, alkalis or solvents, compensating cables Type J Teflon are the more suitable option. The sealed PTFE surface does not absorb moisture and can be easily cleaned when contaminated. Fibreglass insulation, on the other hand, can absorb moisture, which over time impairs the insulation properties and consequently the measurement accuracy.
For thermocouples of Type J used in mechanical engineering, plastics processing or laboratory technology, the PTFE insulation fully covers the typical ambient temperature range. Fibreglass is primarily recommended where the cable must be routed in close proximity to hot surfaces or open heat sources.
ISO 9001 Certified Production by Hand
Therma manufactures all compensating cables Type J Teflon entirely by hand at its production site in Lindlar. The team has more than three decades of manufacturing experience, and many employees have been with the company since its founding. Each cable undergoes testing for continuity, insulation resistance and correct polarity before leaving the facility.
The entire production is governed by the quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 with UKAS-accredited certification. DIN EN 60584-3 defines the permissible limit deviations for compensating cables of tolerance class 2, and Therma tests each batch for compliance with these specifications. Manufacturing without external suppliers enables full traceability of all materials used.
If you have questions about configuring your compensating cables Type J Teflon, the Therma team is available by phone at +49 2266 487330-30 or by email at info@thermagmbh.de. Additional cables of Type J with fibreglass or Kapton insulation are also available in the online shop.
