Premium Type K Kapton Compensating Cable Direct from the Manufacturer

The Type K Kapton compensating cable connects Type K (NiCr-Ni) thermocouples to the measuring instrument and transmits the thermoelectric voltage signal within the permissible temperature range of 0 to 200 degrees Celsius. Kapton is a polyimide material that can be processed into extremely thin yet tear-resistant films. This allows the Type K Kapton compensating cable to achieve particularly compact cable cross-sections with excellent electrical insulation properties even at minimal diameters.

The designation according to DIN EN 60584-3 is "KC", identifying the cable as a Tolerance Class 2 compensating cable with a limit deviation of ±2.5 degrees Celsius. Unlike a thermocouple extension wire, the conductors are made of substitute materials that exhibit the same thermoelectric properties as the thermocouple within the defined operating range. The Kapton insulation withstands ambient temperatures up to 285 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for demanding thermal environments.

Therma supplies the Type K Kapton compensating cable directly to industrial customers, commercial users and institutions without intermediaries. You can configure the cable in various lengths and cross-sections in the Therma online shop. Many standard configurations are available from stock with a standard delivery time of just one week.

Applications in Electronics and High-Temperature Engineering

Kapton insulation offers a decisive advantage over PTFE and fibreglass in applications with limited space. Polyimide can be processed into thinner insulation layers than most other materials while fully maintaining its electrical insulation properties. In electronics manufacturing, where circuit boards and sensors operate in the tightest of spaces, the Type K Kapton compensating cable is therefore often the first choice.

The following table compares the insulation materials for Type K compensating cables:

Insulation Temperature Range Strength Typical Application
Kapton (Polyimide) Up to +285 °C Very thin, compact Electronics, confined spaces
PTFE (Teflon) -190 to +260 °C Chemically resistant Chemical, petrochemical industry

In high-temperature engineering, the Type K Kapton compensating cable has proven itself at measurement points where the ambient temperature exceeds the limits of PVC or silicone cables. Type K thermocouples are used in furnaces, drying plants and thermal processes, and the Kapton-insulated compensating cable ensures a reliable connection to the measuring instrument in these environments.

Type K Kapton Compensating Cable — 100% Handcrafted in Germany

Every Type K Kapton compensating cable is manufactured by Therma at its site in Lindlar, North Rhine-Westphalia. Production is carried out entirely by hand by long-standing skilled specialists, some of whom have been part of the team since the company was founded in 1991. This depth of manufacturing enables seamless quality control from incoming materials to final inspection.

All compensating cables from Therma are produced to ISO 9001 standards and are subject to UKAS-accredited certification. The limit deviations comply with DIN EN 60584-3 for Tolerance Class 2 compensating cables. Through in-house manufacturing, Therma ensures consistent quality independent of external suppliers.

In addition to the Type K Kapton compensating cable, Therma also carries variants with PTFE insulation as well as thermocouple extension wires of Type K in various insulations. Thermocouple extension wires are made of the same material as the thermocouple and achieve the tighter Tolerance Class 1. The Therma team is happy to advise you personally on which cable type is right for your application.

Custom Manufacturing of Your Type K Kapton Compensating Cable

In addition to standard configurations, Therma also offers custom manufacturing of the Type K Kapton compensating cable. Custom lengths, special cross-sections or project-specific connector terminations can be produced within 1 to 2 weeks. Therma's technical development department processes drawings and STEP files for precise implementation of your requirements.

The Type K Kapton compensating cable can be fitted ex works with compression fittings made of stainless steel, brass or PTFE. Direct assembly with matching thermocouple connectors is also possible, so the cable arrives ready for installation. All custom products undergo the same quality control as standard products.

Whether a one-off for an experimental setup or a series cable for a production plant, Therma delivers the Type K Kapton compensating cable in the configuration your measurement project requires. Over 30 years of experience in temperature measurement technology and personal advice from German specialists guarantee reliable implementation.
