Surface thermocouples

A number of things need to be noted when measuring temperatures on surfaces. To avoid distortion of the measuring result, the entire measuring surface of the thermocouple must have contact with the surface being measured. A low temperature influence by the thermocouple is also important. This can only be achieved by ensuring a low net weight of the thermocouple. On electrically conductive surfaces, it must be borne in mind that currents applied from elsewhere can distort the measuring result. No other electrical equipment should be connected or earthed to the surface. If this cannot be avoided, insulated thermocouples should be chosen. In addition to the temperature range, where the thermocouple can be attached it is also crucial for making the right choice.

We offer thermocouples for every surface, providing easy installation and rapid response times. The type, wire length and connection type can be chosen at will for all surface thermocouples.

With the spring-mounted loop thermocouple, the surface temperature of moving parts, e.g. brake disks, drums or treadmills, can be determined. The measuring point consists of a small metal plate which is seated on a round ceramic housing. A spring which pushes the measuring point with a consistent pressure against the surface is fitted behind the housing.  By attaching the mounting adapter, the spring-mounted sensor is guided onto the surface using a bayonet cap. This ideally compensates movements caused by centrifugal forces and vibrations, as well as the reduction in volume caused by wear, and guarantees a valid measuring result.

We offer a particularly robust version with a surface sensor in the form of a cable lug. The thermocouple's measuring point is integrated into the stainless steel cable lug, thereby allowing the thermocouple to be screwed onto a surface. The surface temperature can thus be reliably measured at a defined point. Thanks to the preparation for metric thread sizes, the installation location can be quickly changed, facilitating multiple use. Depending on the wire connected, measurement of surface temperatures up to +550 °C is possible.
